Know the mode controls

Evaluate arithmetic, parentheses, %, powers and Ans with EXE. ↑↓ and OK recall history; Backspace corrects, CLR clears a draft and Escape cancels editing. There is no unknown-variable SOLVE.

Review these controls before choosing a case. Keystroke steps show menus opening, selection and closure.

Expression · Expression evaluation — Enter numbers, decimals, signs, parentheses and arithmetic operators; EXE evaluates the expression.

1. Organize the inputs

Evaluate with EXE

Evaluate an expression

Increase 1,250 by 5%, then add 300. Enter 1250*1.05+300.

Expression1250*1.05+300EXE

2. Follow the keystrokes

Steps 1–4
3. Show answer and interpretation

1,612.5

EXE evaluates precedence to give 1,612.5 and records session history. Ans recalls the previous answer.

4. Avoid these mistakes

  • MATH does not use SOLVE. Power precedes unary minus: (-2)^2=4, but -2^2=-4. Select history with ↑↓ and recall with OK.
  • Finish input with EXE before solving. Clear or changed inputs/settings invalidate earlier results; calculate again.

5. Practice it yourself

Supported results and operating manual

Targets across the lessons: Expression

MATH · Operating manual

  1. Enter an expression and EXE; 1250*1.05+300 gives 1612.5.
  2. Type ^ or press its key for powers; parenthesize negative bases: (-2)^2 = 4 but -2^2 = -4.
  3. Powers precede unary signs, multiplication/division and addition/subtraction, and associate right: 2^3^2 = 512.
  4. Percent divides by 100 before power: 2^50% = 2^0.5; (2^3)% = 0.08.
  5. Compound example: 10000*(1.05)^10 grows 10,000 at 5% annually for 10 years to about 16,288.95.
  6. Power also works in other expression-enabled numeric fields; dates are excluded. 0^0, zero to negative powers and negative bases with noninteger exponents produce errors; exponents are limited to ±10,000, and overflow or power underflow produces an error.
  7. Ans uses the previous answer.
  8. Use ↑↓ to select history and OK to recall the expression.
  9. SOLVE is not used in this mode.
Keys and settings

Keys and workflow

  1. ↑↓ selects the active row. The highlighted row is the variable you are editing.
  2. Enter a number or expression (500*6 or 10000*(1.05)^10), then EXE to evaluate, store and advance. Dates use date input instead of expressions.
  3. SOLVE calculates the selected unknown/output from the other known values. MATH uses EXE only.
  4. CLR clears the draft while editing; otherwise it clears only the selected stored variable. Backspace recalls a stored value and deletes its last character, then EXE stores the change. Escape cancels a draft and restores the original value. After EXE advances, select the field you want to change. Clearing a stored input invalidates dependent results. Selecting a read-only result or history row leaves it untouched; settings and MATH history are preserved. MENU offers current-mode clear and calculator reset.

MENU → Fill Example provides working inputs for the current mode. N/A or an error means the inputs/settings do not support a valid result; check the highlighted field and domain restrictions.
